It appears that the skaven are in league with the foul cultists of Nurgle, the Lord of Decay. While the dwarfs may be resilient to plague and the horrors of Chaos, the humans of Black Fire Pass will not fare so well, as made clear by the fall of Hindelburg. The dwarfs must do everything they can to stop this plague before it overwhelms Black Fire Pass.
